New Podcast Discoveries

I’ve discovered that I don’t mind watching shows on the iPhone and have run into a lot of times where it would have been real nice to have some things to watch. So I hit iTunes and found as many cool things as I could that I could sync up and keep handy. It turns out that there’s a lot of really good stuff out there now.

News

NBC Nightly News

The full episode of the previous day’s show with a commercial or two in there somewhere. Worth it to catch up quickly (about half an hour).

Meet the Press

The seminal interview show, now hosted by Tom Brokow. Must have.

The Today Show

Worth it to skim it. Sometimes there’s some good stuff and sometimes it’s all brain fluff.

Countdown with Keith Olberman

Another must-have, IMO. The best part is keeping the episodes around with the more stinging stories. Smiling Shows are posted shortly after airing (almost always before midnight).

2008 Presidential Debates

All the debates so far, and when the next happens it will be posted here for download.

Onion News Network

The only source for real news.

Austin

Some Austin news programs:

KVUE – VOD

KUT Morning Newspod

AccuWeather Daily Forecast – Austin

Educational

Hidden Universe HD: NASA’s Spitzer Space Telescope

Hubblecast HD

NASA’s JPL – HD

NASA 360 – HD

Other NASA Shows

Discovery Channel Video Podcasts

iTunes U @ Stanford: Modern Theoretical Physics (Yeah, really. It’s great.)

Other HD Podcasts (Great for the desktop or tv; use the “Create iPod or iPhone Version” menu item to take them with you.)

PS: An honorable mention goes out to Happy Tree Friends, a show I can barely watch most of the time, but get some perverse enjoyment out of seeing. Just be sure you’re wearing headphones and no one can see the screen — more than once I’ve scarred small children laughing at this.

Quotes

“Creeds must disagree: it is the whole fun of the thing. If I think the universe is triangular, and you think it is square, there cannot be room for two universes. We may argue politely, we may argue humanely, we may argue with great mutual benefit; but, obviously, we must argue. Modern toleration is really a tyranny. It is a tyranny because it is a silence. To say that I must not deny my opponent’s faith is to say I must not discuss it . . . It is absurd to have a discussion on Comparative Religions if you don’t compare them.” — “The History of Religions,” The Illustrated London News, 10 October 1908 – G. K. Chesterton
